Shorr Packaging Industry Solutions

Food Processing Community

This is a case where a major, nationally known fast food chain was objecting to its manufacturer about varying quality levels of shrink film. The film is used in wrapping food manufactured at multiple sites.

Mini Case Study

Situation:
A national manufacturer of fast food and food handling consumables worried about compliance with corporate purchase agreements for shrink film. The scattering of different products greatly increased purchasing cost, but reduced the effectiveness in vendor negotiations.

Solution:
Shorr assessed the product requirements at each of the production sites and proposed standardizing on specific products. Shorr sales reps and their vendor partners called on key locations within each of the manufacturers production facilities. They conducted training sessions promoting the product benefits, thus gaining approval and testimonial of key personnel. We selected one point of contact within the Shorr organization to ensure continuity of programs, ongoing training, and conflict resolution for the manufacturer’s facilities.

Results:
The manufacturer had one point of contact for all its facilities and the combined volume was leveraged to promote lower costs. Product/application training continues to be conducted at key facilities. The newly acquired companies understood and experienced the benefits of corporate procurements involvement, which removed another obstacle in the integration of the acquisitions.
