In this study, a very large national company reduced roll stock damage.
Mini Case Study
Situation:
A large national manufacturer of various substrates for the printing industry experienced 10% material loss due to damage when transporting coated master rolls of paper between facilities. Inconsistent cradle designs (single use) created variations in material handling, and the truck cubing process caused edge and side damage.
Solution:
Shorr’s packaging engineers and sales teams coordinated a development program between the customer and fabricator to create a new cradle design that would reduce damage.
Results:
The new cradle design allowed for standardization of material handling and truck cubing processes, reducing waste by over 50%. Standardizing the cradle design allowed Shorr to aggregate all facilities' volumes to leverage lower costs even in light of the new design.. Additionally, Shorr is spearheading a sustainable project for the development of a multi-use cradle.
