The Most Important Element of Packaging Excellence - People Managing Change

Wed October 14, 2009

In today's business climate, managing people can make or break a company. It's the difference between losing share, holding your own or growing the business.

Thomas Edison said that genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration. We don't lay claim to genius, but we believe in the spirit of that message. Packaging excellence depends on excellent execution. Ideas are important, and we have them. Experience is important, and we have experience to spare. But all the new packaging designs, automated packaging systems, new packaging procurement programs, don't do you any good unless they are properly and professionally implemented.

Lots of packaging companies can talk a good game, deliver a stunning PowerPoint presentation. (We like to think we can do that as well.)  But what makes Shorr Packaging different is our ability to work at all levels of the organization to bring people together around change.

As any business leader knows, the greatest obstacle to growth and greater profitability is resistance to change. Knowing that, we work overtime with the purchasing staff, engineering, shipping and receiving personnel, and line operators to make sure they understand why changes are being implemented, and how the changes will benefit them and the company.

Just as important, we solicit feedback, ideas, and criticism, because quite often, those who work with packaging on a daily basis have knowledge that can generate substantial cost savings and operating efficiencies.

Our goal - to make change seamless, to take the tension and anxiety out of implementing new products and systems.
